Duke in Full Flight

"As leader of his nonpareil orchestras, Duke could get the absolute attention, the necessary power and delivery of every player while simply seated on his piano bench…and at exactly the right moment to achieve maximum effect. Over the years, this particular image has been published in a variety of books, magazines and other publications, and for good reason — I was just capturing the magic that he created in those exact moments."
—Veryl Oakland
