"Shortly after Miles Davis disbanded his all-acoustic quintet and moved into jazz fusion and electronics, so too did his pianist re-emerge in a similar vein. Herbie Hancock debuted his Mwandishi Sextet here, employing synthesizers, Echoplex, stereo tremolo & reverb to embellish his Fender Rhodes keyboards set-up. But with a front line team of three other major soloists playing saxophones, trumpet and trombone, the band of improvisers took on a sense of family and shared musical purpose that Herbie described as spiritual."
