Diz & Jon Trumpets Up
"No one in the Monterey Jazz Festival audience knew how special this night was going to be. As the featured Dizzy Gillespie was leading his quartet, in walked 20-year-old trumpeter Jon Faddis carrying a duplicate of Gillespie's horn with the trademark upturned bell. The leader feigned surprise, but the two immediately locked horns and engaged in blistering runs high into the atmosphere. Catching this shot, with the two angled bells almost touching as they played away, was a special moment."
