Herbie Catching the Crowd

"Working in a jazz/fusion groove, Herbie frequently performed with a strap-on keyboard known as a keytar. On this late afternoon, joined by the exciting John McLaughlin, Herbie's unusual assemblage was the perfect band to bring the Greek Theatre crowd to a frenzy. I'm glad I caught this in color too. Often I was set up to do both, but this one really expresses itself in color. Herbie's whole energy that afternoon — the shirt, the grin, that keytar — none of it reads the same in black and white."
